Parliamentarians are key actors in establishing and upholding small arms control. They are responsible for legislating at the national level, ratifying international treaties, monitoring the performance of governments, holding them accountable for their actions and shaping public opinion and awareness. In this way, parliamentarians are ideally suited for instigating real change from the local to the international level given their key role as social actors.
The Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) is a membership based organization. As such, the members – parliamentarians dedicated to stopping the proliferation of small arms and armed violence– own and direct the activities of the Forum. Following directives by its members, the Forum is currently undertaking various projects in co-operation with a number of international and/or parliamentary organizations.
The Model Law on Firearms, Ammunition and Related Materials is now available in Spanish, English and French.
